# Home-based maker compliance checklist (starting point)

A self-check, not a Homewaala requirement beyond what's in the seller
attestation you complete on Homewaala itself. Mirrors the same categories
as that attestation, so the terms line up with what you'll see there.

## Food sellers
- [ ] I have a valid California Cottage Food registration or permit (Class
      A or B) for the county I sell from.
- [ ] I know my permit class's rules on what I can and can't sell (see
      CDPH's Cottage Food program page, linked from `/provider/compliance`).
- [ ] I label every food item with ingredients and allergen information.
- [ ] I know my county's exact required label wording (this can vary by
      county -- check with your local environmental health department).

## Mehndi / henna artists
- [ ] I use natural henna only.
- [ ] I understand "black henna" (PPD) is not permitted and carries a real
      chemical-burn risk to clients.

## Every home-based maker
- [ ] I've checked my lease or HOA rules for any restriction on running a
      business from home.
- [ ] I've checked my city's home-occupation rules (some cities require a
      simple home-occupation permit or registration).
- [ ] I understand my sales income is taxable, regardless of whether I
      receive a 1099-K (see the tax-readiness checklist, also downloadable
      from `/provider/resources`).
- [ ] I've thought about liability insurance for my home business -- most
      homeowner's/renter's policies do not cover business activity, and
      Homewaala's own insurance (if any) does not cover you, your products,
      or your services.
- [ ] I'm comfortable with product photos being used with my listing (never
      photos of you personally or your home) -- I can request removal of my
      data at any time.
